Buona Domenica...Celebrating San Giuseppe

Today Italians celebrate San Giuseppe. The day has special significance for Sicilians, who attribute help from St. Joseph for saving them from a serious drought in the Middle Ages. If there's one food St. Joseph's Day deserves to be as famous as its Irish counterpart for, it's zeppole, sometimes spelled zeppoli or called sfinge di San Giuseppe. These small doughnuts are usually dusted with sugar and can be filled with jelly, custard or ricotta cream like the kind in cannoli. If you're lucky you have an Italian bakery in your area that makes them! Here are the San Giuseppe Pastries I picked up from @AbbateBakery today! I am very lucky to have such a great bakery nearby. They are originally from Brooklyn and are now out here spreading the love!

It is so wonderful to continue this tradition and keep it going in our family! It is so easy to lose family traditions and customs. It is very important that we make sure we keep our heritage as much a part of our lives, especially our children lives so we never forget where we came from!

Our heritage is our history...it is our bloodline...it is our origin. That is why we should pass it along for generations to come.

Today we started off with some bruschetta and toasted french bread. Il Primo consisted of Fettuccini alla Bolognese and Il Secondo consisted of Chicken Marsala.

What a great Sunday dinner! Everything was delicious! One may think that Chicken Marsala is too fancy shmancy and hard to make but it really is quite easy! You can make it in one pan!! Oh yes you can!! I will show you how..

RECIPE ALERT:

Choose the amount of chicken cutlets you want to make

Fill a bowl with All-Purpose Flour and add salt and pepper to taste - whisk together to blend

Fill another bowl with some milk and whisk an egg to blend

In a large frying pan heat up just enough (Canola or Vegetable) oil to cover the pan

Dip each chicken cutlet into the egg mixture then coat with flour mixture

Place floured chicken into frying pan and just let it brown

Set each cutlet in a separate dish until all cutlets are done

in a separate small pot heat chicken broth - about a 1/2 cup

Using the same frying pan, add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and mix a rue

Add baby bello mushrooms and saute for 3 minutes

Add a bottle (16 oz.) Marsala and let simmer for a minute...then add a "cuppino" or ladle of broth once or twice and let simmer for a minute

Bring cutlets back to pan and place on top of the mushrooms.

Cover and cook for about 10 minutes.

For the asparagus, cut off the bottoms, add to a pan and lightly drizzle some extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper to taste and add some finely chopped garlic, add about 1/4 cup of water and cover. Let cook until tender!

A gourmet dish made easy!!!

Try it out and leave me a comment! Let me know how it comes out!! ENJOY!!!!
